The only bummerr about doing street art is that you have to stay up quite late watching the complete dvd of Guns and Roses music videos before you can go out and do your thing. The good point is that you get to drink quite a lot in that time.

all the hoopla about CP+B

Thursday, August 31st, 2006

cpb.jpgCrispin Porter + Bogusky are the subject of Warren Berger's new tome called "Hoopla" due in September. The veteran journalist tracked and reported on the CP+B rise to phenom status over the past decade and according to the book's hype "fully examines and deconstructs the methods that lie behind the agency’s seeming madness. The result is a fascinating journey into a realm of unbridled creativity."

While you're at the CP+B site, click on the "Projects up for Grabs" tab – they are currently "Looking for companies to work with on a project involving CGI and 3D work".

Switch Rings

Thursday, August 31st, 2006

switchring.jpg
43 highlighted these new Switchrings at .org, that she just got, and the idea was far too cute - and when i went to explore further fell for their packaging and branding. They seem to function like the capsule toys (wouldn't they be perfect in capsules?) - affordable playful colorful rings with swapable bits, and you have no control of the colors you get. They even have some with patterns - everything from skulls and flowers to crystals and bugs.

Colin does this week's round-up, saying "This week I'm feeling eclectic so for your visual pleasure some abandoned ufo houses, greenery for the indoors, ridiculous hand drawn typography, a carpet tanker for your electrical needs, and some unexpected art amid chaos."

One Year: Thoughts and Images

Thursday, August 31st, 2006

I honestly meant to post this sooner (two days ago) but I still feel like it has some serious relevance. Superstar designer Nessim Higson dedicated his IAAH (I Am Always Hungry) portfolio to “The city that care forgot and the people that called it home.” This collection of designs is meant to do nothing more than stimulate thought on those events of 2005. They are provocative, clever, and some images down right saddening. Flip through dozens of pages of Nessim’s work and remember here.

Harry Organizer

Thursday, August 31st, 2006

HarryoranizerA 2005 DesignPlus Winner, the Harry organizer from Formila sits at the intersection between style and function. It is comprised of flexible and sturdy aluminum which can be twisted and manipulated to your heart’s content. The wires are threaded through the sturdy base which can be mounted by your door and hold keys or left on your desk for pens, a staple remover, and some paper clips. The possibilities are endless but one thing’s for certain, it will certain attract the eyes of curious passersby.

Thanks Filipe…

Money Clip Credit Card

Wednesday, August 30th, 2006

A few years ago when Discover introduced their mini credit card that was meant to be attached to your key chain and flipped out at the register, I yawned. When American Express recently unveiled their Butterfly card, I was mildly interested. What really has me excited though, is the new card designed by Roger Arquer. It combined a money clip with a credit card so you can carry your cash and plastic in one simple package. A year ago, I moved away from the bulky, carry-it-all wallet, and on to a minimalistic approach (mostly with the help of M-A-K-R). Just a concept at this point, I hope this card makes it into production soon!

ceramic teddybear

Wednesday, August 30th, 2006

ceramic teddy.jpg

Recently exhibited at Vessel Gallery's Animal Magic in London: "Swede Bodil Söderlund's ingenious re-incarnations of the loyal childhood teddy into an appropriate adult memento." (Angel Monzon) It started with the question "what happens to objects as we grow out of them?" The teddybear, as a global symbol of childhood, friendship and comfort changes its function with time from being an active, physical fabric of love into a passive carrier of memories and past times. The teddy moves out of arms and beds and into boxes and basements. My work reflects this change and creates a new object through sacrificing the original teddy.

Commissioning your own soft toy creates a sculpture that celebrates your childhood, or if you would need to, it provides a marvellous opportunity to smash it up.

Rufflat

Wednesday, August 30th, 2006

rufflat2.jpg

Ruffle or flat, its your choice! This design concept was to deliver the product with a unique property of PVC & fabric, apart from presenting a valuable and rigid look; the form is boundless and allows users to use with its flexibility. ‘Rufflat’ is integrated with a playful fashion element; a trendy drawstring mechanism that a handbag would use is designed to determine the shape of the ruffle as the user desire. By pulling the drawstring, ‘Rufflat’ becomes a container serving multi-purposes like fruit tray, candy holder or whatever.

In addition, the tightness is adjustable that allows making the size different upon users’ preferences. Once the string is loosened, the whole will becomes flatten again as a tablemat.

Marvelously,Rufflat has been selected to exhibit at Good Design Presentation in Tokyo 2006 by Good Design Award.

Personal DNA

Wednesday, August 30th, 2006

personaldna.jpg
Personal DNA - another psych profiling online quiz - but glossy and pretty - and possibly more thought out than most as far as taking into account the UI as well as the questions... It makes great use of what the web has to offer... most intriguing to me is the beaker of green goo (how cliche science lab?) that you need to empty into the various sliders accordingly. It certainly changes how you visualize the choices you make... Anyhow, give it a go - feel free to post what you are, always curious who reads this. Not sure if i love their output (the dna strip and there is a square that is kind of Mondrian meets TV Static) - or that their logo looks like it might be flipping me off... but the styling of this test is worth a peek. Oh, and i'm an Advocating Creator in their books.
